Join Project Seagrass for Seagrass Seed Collection at Ryde, Isle of Wight.

We’re excited to invite you to take part in our upcoming Seagrass Seed Collection, including snorkelling and wading.

This July, seagrass (Common eelgrass, Zostera marina) seeds will be maturing along the coast — and we’d love your help collecting them. These seeds will play a vital role in restoring local seagrass meadows in 2027, supporting important marine life and healthy coastlines for years to come.

Book your place here.

Things to know

Where to meet: at the Project Seagrass Shelter on Ryde beach, left of the pier. Look out for our Project Seagrass flags. We will check you-in and brief you on the event. What3Words:  //caves.jumpy.stages

Parking: St Thomas Street Long Stay Car Park is a good option (please note this is a pay-and-display car park). For public transport links, Ryde Esplanade train station is very close by, and the Ryde Hovercraft comes in next to the pier. There is limited street parking (with parking restrictions) around Ryde.

What to bring:

For snorkelling: The following items are required

  • Wetsuit and wetsuit boots
  • Hood (optional, but recommended)
  • Snorkel and mask
  • Towel and warm clothes for afterwards
  • Fins (optional)
  • Water shoes (recommended for walking across sand and rocky areas if you don’t have wetsuit boots)

For wading: The following items are required

  • Clothing you don’t mind getting wet (shorts or swimwear are ideal)
  • Footwear is essential due to low visibility in the seagrass — this helps protect your feet
