Project Seagrass Fragment Planting Walks: Priory Bay

« All Events

Our partners, Project Seagrass, will be restoring 3ha of seagrass as part of the Solent Seascape Project. For this to be a success we need the support of the local community.

One of the planting methods we will be using is replanting dislodged seagrass fragments, and that’s where you come in!

During the winter storm season we will be harvesting and replanting any dislodged seagrass fragments found in Priory Bay, Isle of Wight.

Location: Meet by the Old Church at St Helen’s. This is a pay and display carpark, however there is free road parking and buses to the site.

Itinerary: After meeting at the Old Church, we will then proceed on a gentle walk along the beach towards Priory Bay. Once there, we will process any fragments we have harvested and replant them into the bay, contributing to our ongoing restoration efforts.

Personal Kit: For this event you will need a comfortable set of walking boots or wellies and suitable clothing for the weather – we will be out processing fragments for between 2-3 hours, so remember your layers! If you own a head torch, please bring this along as we will likely be out as the sun is setting. Do not worry if you don’t own one, we will provide extras.

Project Seagrass will provide: Gloves and antibacterial gel, as well as all the necessary kit for harvesting fragments, and head torches (as needed).

Important Note! We are not limited by weather conditions, so we will not be cancelling upon wet and windy weather. In the unlikely event that we do have to cancel, we will contact participants by email.
